CAS Changes and Search Engine Optimization - May 27, 2009

June Guest Speaker

Allison Oslund, Communications Manager for CIS, discussed the June Guest Speaker for IT Forum.  Bryan Sartin from Verizon Business Security Solution will present at the next IT Forum on understanding security threats.

Code Maroon Changes

UIN Classification Status

Willis Marti, Director, Networking and Chief Information Security Officer, discussed UIN classification.  A federal ruling has determined that Student Identification Numbers can be classified as directory information.  Texas A&M policy changes are in progress to make UINs directory information. UINs should be treated as confidential information until the policy change is finalized.    

CAS Changes

Tom Golson, Chief Systems Engineer for CIS, discussed the conversion from CAS 2 to CAS 3.  CAS 3 will be available for General Access in July 2009, and CAS 2 will remain available for use until December 2009.  Visit http://infrastructure.tamu.edu/auth/CAS to learn more.

Google Search Appliance

Michael McGinnis, Web Communication Specialist for Texas A&M Marketing and Communications, discussed the Google Search Appliance(GSA) and search engine optimization.  The Texas A&M GSA uses Google algorithms and is optimized for Texas A&M needs.
